TOURISM UP & UP & UP - CAPE VERDE SEES 9,6% INCREASE OF HOTEL UNITS

 
 
According to the Cape Verdean National Statistics Institute (INE), the number of hotel units in Cape Verde have risen by an incredible 9.6 percent in 2011. The increases in hotel units cover hotels, inns and also tourist villages.

The rise itself saw a total of 195 Cape Verde hotel units as opposed to 178 in 2010. 

Cape Verde’s hotel units also offered a significant increase of room, beds and places. The figures researched by the INE showed that these hotel units offered accommodation of 7,900 rooms, 14,000 beds and 17,000 places which grew by 34.1 percent, 23.5 percent and 22.8 percent respectively from the 2010 statistics. 

The islands of Sal and Boa Vista contain the most hotel units within the region. In fact, the island of Sal contains 44.7 percent of the overall hotel units compared to Boa Vista which contains 31.1 percent.

São Vicente has the largest increase of hotel units which saw an increase of five units, swiftly following Santo Antão and Maio with three and four respectively. 

Employment has definitely increased due to the 9.6 percent increase of hotel units in Cape Verde. Within the INE report, employment within the hotel units increased by an astonishing 27.6 percent since 2010. This increase saw 5,100 people becoming employed all due to the rise of tourism in Cape Verde.
